JOINING
WHY JOIN ? Most new members tell us the key reasons they join the Fire and EMS divisions are: camaraderie, personal knowledge and skills development, career benefits, and service to our community.
APPLICATION PROCESS: In the Contacts section, see respective contact person for Fire and EMS divisions. Call them to discuss the process and to consider completing an application form.
Here are the first steps, in a nutshell:
Come to a 6:00 pm Thursday evening meeting/training session (See Calendar for Fire versus EMS dates) at Station #2 (See Contacts section for address/directions). You might want to arrive a little early. Introduce yourself to anyone and tell them you're interested in joining or learning more about the department. Fill out an application. Stick around and see what the department is all about. Keep coming to the training meetings. You might want to call the department ahead of time just to make sure that there is, indeed, going to be something happening at the station the evening when you're planning to make your first visit.
We're looking forward to meeting you!
HERE IS WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
Teamwork: Firefighters
and EMTs work as a team at emergency scenes. Their work also includes training, station
and equipment maintenance, fire prevention activities, and public education. You must be in excellent physical condition to meet the demands of the job.
For firefighters, this means you must work quickly, handling heavy equipment for long periods of time while wearing special protective gear -- often in hot and hazardous environments. If you can meet the challenge of strenuous work and like the idea of helping people, consider applying for the position of firefighter.
For EMTs, this means you must think quickly on your feet, perform accurate
patient assessments, and provide technical treatment to the sick and injured.
Requirements: Minimum 18 years of age (out of high school); Valid
Colorado driver's license with a clear driving record; Live or work within the area served by CBFPD; Must submit to a physical (paid for by
us).
Benefits: All fire fighting gear, uniforms, communications equipment and training are free. Workers compensation insurance will provide payment for your medical bills from an injury incurred while training or participating in fire fighting or rescue activities. Accidental death loss benefit of $150,000 or dismemberment loss according to the policy schedule up to $150,000. Most importantly, you will have an opportunity to serve your community.
Application: Any prospective member can pick-up and submit an application for membership at
Station #1.
Firefighter Training: Every new member is required to complete a cadet program before the individual is authorized to fight
fires. This program is about 90 hours long and held 2 times a year. Classes are conducted 2 nights a week and on some Saturdays for a period of about 8 weeks. After the cadet program, the individual is a Probationary Fire Fighter. This is to allow for additional training time at the station-level and for the person to get limited hands-on experience at fires until he/she is ready to be a firefighter.
EMT Training: There are
several levels of emergency medical technician training, and we will work with
you to progress through these levels as your time and interests allow.
Equipment: The uniform and firefighting clothing is provided to the new member by
CBFPD. This equipment remains the property of the CBFPD and must be returned upon leave/termination.
The President of the United States has called on all Americans to look for ways to serve their communities.
Joining the CBFPD is an excellent way to participate in community service that really matters.
WE WANT YOU!
